Mario Kart 64 is a kart racing game in which the player controls one of eight selectable Mario characters in several racetracks that vary in shape and theme. Players control one of eight Mario franchise characters, who race around 16 tracks (4 in each of 4 cups) with items that can either harm opponents or aid the user.

It was released in Japan on Decemin North America on Februand in the United Kingdom on June 24, 1997. It is the second main entry in the Mario Kart series and is the successor to Super Mario Kart (1992) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
